Wuhan Technical College of Communications Library – Automated Roller Blinds for Optimal Light Control

Wuhan Technical College of Communications Library – Automated Roller Blinds for Optimal Light Control

2026-02-26

The library at the Wuhan Technical College of Communications serves as the central academic hub for thousands of students and faculty members. Designed with modern architecture featuring expansive, multi-story glass facades, the building benefits from abundant natural light. However, managing this immense sunlight to create a comfortable, glare-free reading and study environment required a professional, large-scale automated shading solution.

The Challenges

Equipping a massive public library with an effective shading system presented the engineering team with several unique architectural and operational challenges:

  • Extreme Window Heights: The library features floor-to-ceiling windows spanning several meters high. Manual operation of roller blinds at this height is virtually impossible and poses a significant safety risk for the library staff.

  • Glare Control & UV Protection: Direct sunlight not only damages valuable book collections over time but also creates severe screen glare on laptops and reading desks, negatively impacting the students' study experience.

  • Centralized Facility Management: With hundreds of windows across multiple floors, the library management required a unified control system. Adjusting blinds one by one was highly inefficient; staff needed the ability to open or close entire zones simultaneously.

Our Solution

To address the demands of this large-scale educational facility, we provided a comprehensive Galime Motorized Roller Blind Solution, powered by our heavy-duty commercial tubular motors.

  • High-Torque Tubular Motors: We installed our robust AC tubular motors, specifically engineered to effortlessly lift and lower oversized, heavy-duty sunscreen fabrics over large spans without overheating or stalling.

  • Sunscreen Fabric Integration: The motorized system was paired with professional sunscreen fabrics that filter out harsh UV rays and eliminate screen glare while still preserving the outside view and natural ambient light.

  • Smart Group Control System: By utilizing our advanced multi-channel group control technology (via RS485 and centralized RF transmitters), we empowered the librarians to control specific zones—or the entire building's blinds—with a single press of a button at the reception desk.

Project Outcomes & Feedback

The newly installed motorized roller blind system transformed the library into a highly functional, energy-efficient, and comfortable learning environment. The automated shading significantly reduces the building's cooling costs during the hot summers by blocking solar heat gain. Library administrators have highly praised the system for its ease of use, noting that the centralized control interface has drastically reduced their daily workload, allowing them to focus entirely on student services.
